Views

A view is a way in which the data is fetched from the database and displayed. In other words, a view is just a collection of the required information obtained from multiple tables in the database in the preferred format. Exchange Reporter Plus offers three types of views for displaying and analyzing the Exchange audit reports:

• Default View
• Summary View
• Periodic View

In addition to the predefined views, custom views can also be created with Create New View option.

Default View

The Default View is a normal tabular representation of Exchange audit data. All the data gathered from the Exchange sources within a specified time period are displayed. This data can be further consolidated and analyzed based on specific attributes, which you can add as separate columns. For example, in the Mailbox Send As Permission Changes report, the Default View provides information on all aspects such as:

• User name
• Mailbox name
• Server name
• Time
• Modified attributes
• Remarks and more

Summary View

The Summary View offers a consolidated representation of data provided in the default view based on a single attribute within a time period. For example, in the Mailbox Send As Permission Changes report, the Summary View offers the total count of modifications made by a particular user. Here, the summary view provides the following information:

• User name
• Modification count

The bar chart shows the top five objects based on permission modification.

Periodic View

The Periodic view provides period-based consolidation of the data. This view goes one step ahead of the summary view and provides data for each hour, day, week, or month. For example, in the Mailbox Send As Permission Changes report, the Periodic View provides information on Send As permission changes on an hourly basis. This report generates the following information:

• Active hours per day for a particular mailbox
• Modification count

The bar chart shows the hourly summary of domain-based logon count values.

Custom views

In addition to the existing views offered, you can create custom views for Exchange audit data. Use the Create New View option under the Select View option to create new custom views:

• Select the report for which a new view is to be created.
• Click on the Create New View option.
• Enter a suitable name for the view and view type (default, summary, or periodic).
• Choose the level of granularity for the periodic view or the object to be summarized under the summary view.
• Select the values that you want to know about.
• Click Create.
• Now, go back to the Select View option, and choose the name of the view you just created.

For example, in the Mailbox Send As Permission Changes report, a custom view is created here to display the summary of Send As permission changes based on servers in the organization.
